The Division of Fossil Energy Development has the mission to maximize the benefits of Kentucky's energy resources in a clean and sustainable manner while creating a base for strong economic growth and fostering national energy independence and security. The division has oversight in implementing Strategy 4 (coal to liquids) and Strategy 5 (coal to gas) of Governor Beshear's 7-point energy strategy.
